In our hearts there will always be a special place for Alonzo Jimenez.  He was an amazing folk artist who was a pure joy to watch as he athletically worked a piece of gnarled wood into a masterpiece.  We all know the famous western icon of the howling coyote but what many do not realize is that Jimenez was responsible for this famous image.   For a long time he worked beside Felipe Archuleta’s famous backyard in Tesuque New Mexico. In 1978   Alonzo set out on his own and stopped doing collaboration pieces with Archuleta.  Alonzo lived from 1949-2005 and we miss him to this day.  Jimenez created wood carvings with a style and flair completely his own, and he is often said to be one of the most talented folk artists of all time.  You can find his pieces in our home and gallery. You can also find his work in the Santa Fe Folk Art Museum collection, as well as the American Folk Art Museum in New York city.
